Comoving frames and active longitudes: Does the Sun have face?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Context. Using Greenwich sunspot data for 120 years it was recently observed that activity regions on the Sun’s surface tend to lie along smoothly changing longitude strips 180◦apart from each other. After critique of the original paper, the new arguments were found to substantiate the claim. Aims. In this paper we analyse new arguments in some detail. Methods. To check basic arguments about persistent longitudes we tried to reproduce results obtained in previous papers. Our computations and additional cross-checks revealed number of inconsistencies. Results. As a result of analysis we can say that evidence for essential and persistent non-axisymmetricity in sunspot distibution

Introduction The human need for energy is continually increasing and the limited sources of fossil energy are reducing. The indiscriminate use of fossil fuels pollute the environment and threaten life on the earth. Besides, because of difficult terrain, unfavourable topographical conditions and inaccessibility of some mountainous roads to national electricity network or high costs of these s...
متن کاملFlip - flop phenomenon : observations and theory
In many active stars the spots concentrate on two permanent active longitudes which are 180◦ apart. In some of these stars the dominant part of the spot activity changes the longitude every few years. This so-called flip-flop phenomenon has up to now been reported in 11 stars, both single and binary alike, and including also the Sun. To explain this phenomenon, a non-axisymmetric dynamo mode, g...
متن کاملPhotospheric Magnetic Field of the Sun: Two Patterns of the Longitudinal Distribution
Longitudinal distributions of the photospheric magnetic field studied on the basis of National Solar Observatory (Kitt Peak) data (1976 – 2003) displayed two opposite patterns during different parts of the 11-year solar cycle. Heliolongitudinal distributions differed for the ascending phase and the maximum of the solar cycle on the one hand, and for the descending phase and the minimum on the o...

متن کاملDoes Saffron Have Antisolar and Moisturizing Effects?
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of saffron as a natural sunscreen and moisturizer. The pollens of the saffron were dried and powdered in a grinder. The experimental formulations included a homosalate (8%) lotion reference, lotions with 2, 4 and 8% of grinded saffron, and the control lotion base without saffron. The lotions containing saffron were prepared like homosal...
